Introduction
This double degree simultaneously develops expertise in the areas of health safety and health promotion. The two disciplines, focusing on health education and workplace injury prevention, develop complimentary skills that will enhance the graduate's employment opportunities. It emphasises prevention of disease and the importance of staying healthy throughout one's life, creating healthy environments and is particularly relevant for jobs in government, community and workplace environments, where the focusis on implementing systems for the prevention of injury in the workplace.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Chemistry or Physical Science, and Applicable Mathematics.
Specific Requirements
STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q. Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication.
Note
Students will normally be expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
The course is four years full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Associate Degree in Occupational Health and Safety may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School. For further definition refer to the Statement and Awards section under General Information.
Course Organisation
Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event, the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.
Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible for professional level accreditation with the Australian Health Promotion Association (Health Promotion) and membership to the Safety Institute of Australia (Health and Safety).
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
