Introduction
The course addresses the needs of a professional engineer in pursuing a higher degree both by recognising their experience and time constraints. The research component of a traditional masters degree has been replaced by industry based project work which the student can tie in with their work commitments. Students attend course topics, intensive block programs, and resource based learning through distance education mode.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) or equivalent degree majoring in Electrical Power. In addition proof of employment associated with the power industry or at least one year's experience in the power industry is required, if not currently employed.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Recognition of prior learning may be granted to a student transferring from another program at a recognised institution, with satisfactory completion of equivalent coursework and or with proof of professional training or substantial work experience gained in industry, not exceeding two thirds of the required credits.
Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is one year full-time equivalent part-time study.
Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma in Electrical Utility Engineering may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School. Applicants must have successfully completed the units Electrical Utility Engineering 541 (Graduate Certificate/Graduate Diploma) and Electrical Utility Engineering 542 (Graduate Diploma). Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
