Introduction
This course provides health professionals with a broad and sound foundation in biological and behavioural sciences, the principles of teaching and learning and best practice management of diabetes. Graduates will have the capacity to advance diabetes education and guide clinical practice.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A relevant bachelors degree or equivalent from a recognised institution. An alternate mode of entry is available for health professionals without a degree.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Applicants currently accredited as a Diabetes Educator with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association should apply for recognition of prior learning.
Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is one year full-time or two-years part-time study.
Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education (completion of Diabetes Education 541 and Diabetes Education 542) may apply under exceptional circumstance provisions for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School. For further definition refer to the Statement and Awards section under General Information.
Course Organisation
Students are required to participate in clinical practice (1 x 2 week blocks) for both Diabetes Education 541 and Diabilities Education 542.
Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible to apply for credentialling with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study. Students are required to have and maintain reliable internet access and pay for the cost of obtaining and using internet access as part of their studies.
