Introduction
This course provides professionals with specialist knowledge and skills in the area of human sexuality. It also provides a comprehensive study of biological, psychological and social aspects of human sexuality, based on recent research. Complementary studies in research methods are included.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A recognised degree in one of the health professions, social work or welfare studies, theology, education, behavioural sciences, including sociology, anthropology or biological sciences.

Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is of two semesters full-time duration or equivalent part-time. It is generally offered on a part-time basis depending on number of students.

Course Organisation
Prospective applicants are advised that the program requires attendance at specified workshops and that media material of a sexually graphic nature is employed. The course is taught within the normal semester time. While all students are required to follow the specified course pattern, Sexology 651, 652 and 653 are streamed into Counselling, Education or Research. Students are expected to enter the area of specialisation most suited to their professional expertise. However, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of human sexuality, students with a biological sciences background are given additional work in the behavioural sciences, conversely those with a behavioural sciences background are given additional work in the biological sciences.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
