192204 v.6 Master of Science (Physics)
MSc(Curtin)
Introduction
This advanced course has been designed to provide opportunities for both practising professionals and recent graduates to extend their scientific competence in an area of chosen specialisation. Areas of specialisation include- physical methods of analysis, atmospheric and marine sciences. Instrumentally oriented units and projects provide the opportunities to develop a high level of analytical and experimental skill.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A bachelors degree in science with a physics major or an approved equivalent. An appropriate honours degree or the postgraduate diploma is a prerequisite for entry to the masters course.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Published works, internal reports, conference papers, and consulting work may be considered with each application.
Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study, when the entry requirement of honours or postgraduate diploma has been met. It is two years full-time or equivalent part-time study when entry is gained through a bachelors degree in science. Flexibility in modes of study exists to meet individual study requirements for instance, a mix of full and part-time study, or students may undertake intensive periods of course study or project work over the summer or vacation periods.
Course Organisation
Specifically, the course has been structured to accommodate student differences and preferences in areas of applied physics and instrumental physics. A limited number of undergraduate units may be approved for incorporation in the graduate program where specific preparation deficiencies are identified.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
