191607 v.2 Postgraduate Diploma in Design

PGradDipDes(Curtin)



Introduction
This course is intended for those with a bachelors degree in design or a related field wishing to undertake advanced study in either the design specialisation of their undergraduate major, or in a new or expanded field of design related to their professional work. It is anticipated that most postgraduate diploma students will be professionally employed as designers, be highly motivated, and wish to strengthen professional skills by undertaking a disciplined design investigation and project program in an area relevant to professional interests.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
An approved bachelors degree in a design discipline with a major in one of the School's areas of study or equivalent study. Applications are considered from designers of high standing in the profession with other qualifications in a design-related field. All applicants are required to submit a professional folio, and an outline of proposed research investigation and project development.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Supporting evidence is usally demonstrated in the professional folio submitted with the application or in the applicant's curriculum vitae.

Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is of two semesters full-time duration or equivalent part-time arranged over four semesters. This course is also available in distance education mode. It is also possible for students to undertake the this course in Malaysia or Singapore. Supervision and support is provided through partner institutions.

Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Design may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School. For further definition refer to the Statement and Awards section under General Information.

Course Organisation
Students undertake an individual major design investigation and project development in two stages. This individual project is preceded and supported by four preparatory coursework units.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study. Students may incur a costfor personal Internet access.
