Introduction
This course builds on undergraduate preparation recognising prior learning and the extensive clinical midwifery expertise of the student. It enhances the professional development of the expert midwife practitioner through the investigation of varied theoretical perspective's pertinent to midwifery issues. Recognising and building on extensive midwifery practice prepares the students as scholars, leaders and change agents within midwifery.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A demonstrated academic ability at the undergraduate level and/or postgraduate level. Specific admission requirements include a degree in nursing or related discipline, eligibility for registration in Division One as a nurse and midwife with the Nurses Board of Western Australia, a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery or equivalent and two years full-time equivalent midwifery practice. Those meeting these requirements may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to the third semester of the course. Applicants with a degree in nursing or related discipline, eligibility for registration in Division One as a nurse and midwife with the Nurses Board of Western Australia, a hospital based certificate in midwifery, and two years full-time equivalent midwifery practice may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to the second semester of the course.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Recognition of prior learning may be awarded on the basis of comparable accredited prior learning. To support this application students are required to submit a 'Professional Portfolio' detailing evidence of accomplishments.
Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
