114421 v.3 Associate Degree in Science and Technology
AssocDScTech(Curtin)
Introduction
This course introduces students to aspects of Western scientific knowledge. It has been specially designed for people who may not have a background in science, but who have an interest in this area.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Standard University entry requirements for Associate Degree Programs.
Specific Requirements
No previous knowledge in the area of science is required but applicants must have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to adequately cope with the course. Students will be requested to sit a two-part test and attend a personal interview.
Note
Alternative pathways are available for mature age students. Students who do not meet these requirements may still gain entry by completing appropriate bridging courses.
Duration and Availability
The course is two years full-time study.
Course Organisation
Students may be required to undertake a combination of class work, laboratory work and fieldwork. In the second year of the Associate Degree, students will be able to structure the course to suit their specific area of interest by choosing their elective units, research project topic, and place of work experience. After completing the course, graduates will be able to enter a science degree course at the University and will receive credit for their degree-level science elective units. Core units, however, will not automatically guarantee a student exemption from similar named units within degree courses at the University.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
