| Syllabus: | In this unit, students learn about the pathophysiology, pharmacology and pharmacotherapy for the management of medical conditions and complications that affect the central nervous system (CNS) and apply current evidence to resolve clinical problems. This unit comprises 4 modules. Module 1: Neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease and epilepsy. Module 2: Mental health conditions including anxiety disorders, major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, sleep disorders, anorexia and bulimia nervosa. Module 3: Pain disorders including use of opioid analgesics, local and general anaesthetics. Module 4: CNS conditions associated with substance abuse and addiction. |
| Additional Requisite Information: | NOTE: As a co-requisite, students must complete PHAR4007 Pharmacy Practice 5 at the same time as this unit, IMED4001 Central Nervous System (CNS) Pharmacology and Therapeutics. |
