| UNIT REFERENCES, TEXTS, OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENT DETAILS: | The most up-to-date information about unit references, texts and outcomes, will be provided in the unit outline. |
| Syllabus: | This unit introduces students to the development of an engineering feasibility study for both surface and underground mining operations. It focuses on the assessment of reserves, method selection, mine design layout (including management of waste rock and tailings), geo-technical design, ventilation design, mine scheduling, equipment selection, designing for closure and cost estimation and financing. Students will be introduced to state-of-the-art mining design and planning software, and will also develop their skills and knowledge around project risk assessment, including in relation to environmental risks and potential impacts (positive and negative) on Indigenous people and other local and regional communities. By working collaboratively on projects with their peers' students will develop the teamwork skills required in the workplace. Students will also be required to participate in a 3 to 4 week industry placement. |
