Course Overview
The Indigenous Pre-Business Enabling Course is provided to support Indigenous Australian students in developing fundamental and significant knowledge and practices in business, commerce, marketing, management, academic writing, communication, and cross-cultural leadership. Successful completion of this course will provide a strong foundation for students to articulate with an ATAR equivalence of 70% into an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Business and Law. This course will enable students to prepare for tertiary studies in undergraduate courses, and build on existing knowledge and experiences that enhance life long learning.
Career Oppotunities
The Indigenous Pre-Business Enabling course will provide a pathway into undergraduate business related courses in the Faculty of Business and Law for Indigenous students. The current requirements by the Australian government and the business sector to increase the number of Indigenous business professionals across wider Australian business and community organisations is identified as a major economic and social initiative. This course will encourage and transition Indigenous students into the qualified areas of business, marketing, management and commerce and is aligned with key national and university strategies to increase culturally appropriate and evidence based business and entrepreneurial opportunities for Indigenous people.

Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for an Enabling Course are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au and include flexible entry pathways. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
This Enabling Course is open to Indigenous Australian students only. Applicants apply with an expression of interest to the Centre for Aboriginal Studies. Applicants are then required to undertake an assessment test and interview through the Centre for Aboriginal Studies at a time nominated by the Centre for Aboriginal Studies. Applicants are advised to provide any academic transcripts or training documents on application.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for Credit for Recognised Learning are not considered within this course.
CRL
Applicants cannot receive credit for recognised learning for bridging units when transferring to award courses. The Faculty of Business and Law have agreed to provide CRL for the undergraduate unit MGMT1000 on the successful completion of this unit in the Indigenous Pre-Business Enabling Course Students who successfully complete the Indigenous Pre-Business Enabling course with an acceptable ATAR score for their preferred business undergraduate course will be eligible to apply for entry into these courses. A minimum ATAR score of 70 is required for entry into business undergraduates courses. Students will be required to pass all four units in the first semester before being able to undertake the undergraduate unit in the second semester of the course.

Course Organisation
Units within the Indigenous Pre-Business Enabling course are taught generally within the Centre for Aboriginal Studies at Curtin University. The course is taught in collaboration with the Faculty of Business and Law and the Centre for Aboriginal Studies. Eight units consisting of 25 credits each is taught across two semesters for twelve teaching weeks within each semester period.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. develop, apply and demonstrate English language and communication skills including Academic Integrity, study skills, research and presentation
2. develop knowledge and respect of Aboriginal practices and protocols to work effectively in partnership within diverse cultural contexts
3. consolidate and sustain a positive sense of Indigenous identity to introduce, develop and sustain leadership skills and to empower Indigenous students within the academic environment
4. develop academic business knowledge and practice to work effectively in an academic and business environment
5. apply development of Indigenous Identity and academic knowledge within the context of national and international standards and practices in business
6. develop and demonstrate critical and creative thinking skills to generate solutions and apply logical processes in problem solving that contribute to personal development and lifelong learning
7. develop a level of technological understanding and information skills to undertake research, access resources and communicate and work effectively
8. understand and apply management theory and ethical practice to solutions and situations in management
9. develop effective communication skills in various contexts with consideration of audience and purpose, demonstrating respect for others and cultural awareness
