Course Overview
Graduate Diplomas prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.
This course is designed for those who wish to move into a different discipline from which they have gained their undergraduate degree. It provides opportunity for students to continue to complete a Master of Professional Engineering which will qualify them as professional engineers.

Applicants for a Graduate Diploma are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au. Applicants generally require a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
specifically, applicants require a Bachelor degree or equivalent from a relevant science or engineering discipline for entry into the course. All Curtin Engineering graduates will be considered for entry on a case-by-case basis.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Course Organisation
Graduate Diplomas contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may contain a range of majors/streams for students to choose from to pursue learning in a specialised area of study.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. apply knowledge and skills to identify and design innovative solutions to complex engineering problems
2. analyse and consolidate contemporary industry needs to inform improvements and generate innovative solutions
3. synthesise contemporary knowledge from a range of sources to generate and evaluate complex engineering ideas
4. communicate in ways appropriate to the discipline to transfer complex engineering knowledge, ideas and solutions to a variety of audiences
5. use technology to facilitate complex problem solving and operational efficiencies in an engineering context
6. maintain and initiate ongoing professional expertise and life-long learning for personal and career development
7. apply engineering skills and knowledge in a global context to address issues of international relevance
8. recognise the importance of cultural diversity and demonstrate cultural competence within a professional engineering context
9. demonstrate leadership skills, expert judgements, ethical behaviour and self-management as a professional engineer
Duration and Availability
This course is one year full-time or equivalent part time-study. All majors in this course are available to international students studying in Australia on a study visa. There are two intakes offered each year, in February and July.
