Course Overview
Master Degrees (Research) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for research, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.
This research course develops a strong critical and problem solving approach to professional practice in marketing. The course forms a basis for the professional development of experts able to plan, analyse, evaluate, conduct and communicate the outcomes of sophisticated research and development problems.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks and other essential study materials.
Course Overview Note
It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework.
Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Master Degree (Research) are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://research.curtin.edu.au/postgraduate-research/future-research-students/entry-requirements/. Applicants require a Bachelor Degree with a strong academic performance and may also require relevant substantial work experience or Bachelor Honours Degree (first or second class) or Graduate Diploma. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Applicants for the Masters must have qualified for a Bachelor honours degree (first or second class) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary educational institution.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Course Entry/Completion Note
Applicants who have qualified for a Bachelor Honours (first or second class) will be eligible to enter the Master of Research degree; on entry they do not take our their Honours qualification but elect to continue into the Master degree. Honours remains an exit award for the Master degree.
Course Organisation
Master Degrees (Research) require students to undertake an approved research program leading to a thesis for independent examination; they may include advanced level coursework studies.
The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Director Graduate Studies within the relevant School. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This will increase the stated course duration.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. dmonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on that knowledge and its application
2. investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories and to apply established theories to different bodies of knowledge or practice
3. generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level
4. design, use and evaluate research and research methods
5. design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes an original contribution to knowledge
6. communicate and present a coherent and sustained argument and to disseminate research concepts, plans and results to the general community, peers and national and international research community
Duration and Availability
One to two years of full-time or equivalent part-time study.
