Master Degrees (Coursework) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for professional practice, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.
This Curtin University Corrosion Engineering Course is unique to the region and offers an opportunity to study from your home location. This course provides an advanced professional qualification for graduates in engineering or science disciplines.

Course Overview Note
This course provides an advanced professional qualification for graduates in an engineering or science discipline. It covers theoretical concepts of corrosion, advanced knowledge of corrosion in various environments, and awareness of recent discoveries. A comprehensive research project provides students with an opportunity to showcase their fundamental knowledge and their ability to integrate knowledge into practice. The course is unique at the global level because it is delivered online and may be taken either full time or part time.
Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Master Degree (Coursework) are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au. Subject to the duration of the course applicants usually require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent (and may require relevant work experience), Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Specifically, applicants require a recognised bachelor degree in engineering or science with equivalent of first year Chemistry.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Intermediate Awards

Course Organisation
Master Degrees (Coursework) contain a series of units in a specialised area of study which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may also contain a range of majors/streams for students to choose from.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. apply corrosion theories and principles to account for corrosion causes, failures, and prevention strategies for various corrosion phenomena
2. analyse a range of practical corrosion-related problems, or situations potentially impacted by corrosion, and propose reasoned, viable solutions
3. acquire relevant corrosion-related data from the literature and other sources, and evaluate and synthesise the data to help mitigate the effects of corrosion
4. use appropriate and professional language to communicate effectively with corrosion engineers, operators and managers in writing and in person
5. apply suitable technologies for corrosion testing and prevention, and explain their strengths and limitations
6. integrate own knowledge and past practical and academic experience to solve corrosion-related problems
7. describe major international corrosion prevention standards and practices, and outline their differences
8. demonstrate awareness of the cultural impact of engineering operations
9. apply time management, problem solving and critical thinking skills to investigate and solve corrosion problems
Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is one and a half year or equivalent part time study. There are 2 intakes each year (semester 1 and 2).
