Syllabus: This unit covers rock mass classification systems especially to practical applications of rock mass discontinuity mapping which includes site investigations. It also covers Excavation stability and spans, Rock reinforcement and support, Mine fill design and applications, Coal pillar mechanics and design, Longwall Geomechanics, caving mechanics, Subsidence, Dynamic events such as seismicity, rock bursts, airblasts and slope stability and its instrumentation and monitoring methods. It includes application of numerical methods to mine design and mining methods selection.
