Syllabus: | Description and interpretation of metamorphic rocks in hand-specimen and thin-section. Influence of rock chemistry, temperature and pressure on metamorphic mineral assemblages. Deformation and metamorphic structures. Chemical equilibrium and metamorphic reactions. Mineral nucleation and growth in metamorphic rocks. Fluids, migmatites and partial melting. The metamorphic facies. Tectonic setting of metamorphism. |
