Syllabus: | Seven weeks of supervised professional practice in a "National Association of Testing Authorities" (NATA) accredited medical laboratory. Students will be orientated to the Professional Standards of Occupational Health and Safety and Good Laboratory Practice as described in ISO 15189 "Medical Laboratories - Particular requirements for quality and competence" and "Competency based standards for Medical Scientists". Placement will be in the specimen reception/collection area of the laboratory gaining competency and knowledge in the systems and processes documented in the laboratory's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to pre-examination and examination of primary samples. |
