Syllabus: This unit details the molecular biology and pathogenesis of major bacterial pathogens and how molecular biotechnology uses this information to improve diagnosis, treatment, epidemiological analysis, control and prevention of infectious diseases. Action and range of antimicrobial agents. Bacterial genetics and the evolution of resistance to antimicrobial agents, the mechanisms of resistance to antimicrobial agents, and the spread and epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance genes.
