UNIT REFERENCES, TEXTS, OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENT DETAILS: | The most up-to-date information about unit references, texts and outcomes, will be provided in the unit outline. |
Syllabus: | Students undertake a significant research project that either develops new knowledge or addresses a mechanical engineering problem of interest. Students are free to choose from a range of projects offered by the faculty members as well as by external partners. The theory units that they learn in the classroom provide them with existing knowledge in the field whereas the undergraduate project provides them with an opportunity to demonstrate their inventiveness, degree of effort and self-management skills. In this unit students will: carry out and complete the research project planned and commenced in Mechanical Engineering Research Project 1. Projects involve the application of engineering research methodologies, including analytical, numerical or experimental investigation or design, which is carried out over a period of one year. The students submit their project work in the form of an undergraduate thesis at the end of 2 consecutive semesters, and deliver their research findings in an oral form to their peers and staff in a project research seminar. |
