Syllabus: An exploration of issues of Indigenous sustainability, the changing use of our coasts, sustainable tourism and what the future holds in the face of climate change and coastal adaptation. The approach is interdisciplinary and will draw from Aboriginal studies, cultural geography, planning and sustainable tourism. Students will engage, through on-country fieldtrips, with Indigenous history and culture on the Western Australian coast and will develop an appreciation of cultural difference and the drivers of changing coastal practices and cultures. They will also design a coastal study that assesses a coastal location’s values, vulnerability and adaptive capacity, either historically or in the face of future changes.
