Syllabus: In this unit, students will undertake research related to a relevant industry topic. Using the hypothesis generated in VITI3001 Wine Industry Proposal, students will develop and implement appropriate research methodology, collate and analyse data for statistical significance and prepare a detailed professional scientific report. They will interpret and discuss their results in relation to existing published work and derive a meaningful conclusion with industry applications and outcomes. The key objectives of the unit are for students to gain an introduction to research methodology, understanding the critical importance of accurately defining research problems through the synthesis of well developed, concise and testable hypotheses. Student will undertake preliminary research to identify existing published work on the topic, the problems and sources of error in research design and what measures of statistical significance and confidence levels need to be applied to data. Finally student s will develop advanced skills in report generation presenting the findings of their research.
