| Syllabus: | This unit on power systems quality and automation consists of three modules. The contents are mostly delivered by industry experts to educate the students with real world application of the theories. Module 1 is on concepts of contract administration including contract types; conditions of contracts; special contract conditions; penalty for violation of contracts; tender and pre-tender negotiations; and evaluation of tenders. Module 2 is on concepts of power quality and harmonics including definitions, types, classifications and standards of power quality; voltage and current distortions: total harmonic distortions; harmonic modelling of power systems and components; harmonic calculations; and mitigation techniques Module 3 is on concepts of programmable logic controller (PLC) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) including introduction to PLCs; PLC programming languages; PLC controller design; introduction to SCADA; and simple SCADA system design. |
