Syllabus: | Professional practice: scope, overall setting and activities associated with process industries;Process engineering unit operations and their analysis;Systems analysis concept: complex systems vs. simple systems;Introduction to process synthesis and design; Chemical process flowsheet: DOF and solvability; independence and consistencies of process specifications; decomposition and tear structures;Process flowsheet simulation & optimisation: computer-aided flow-sheeting tools (Hysys, Aspen);Basic analysis of economical and environmental impact of chemical processes;Ill-defined process problems: approaches and solutions; Personal and professional skills and attributes: reasoning, problem solving, knowledge discovery, system thinking, personal and professional skills and attributes;Interpersonal skills: teamwork and communication. |
