Syllabus: | The unit focuses on principles of atmospheric corrosion chemistry, degradation of materials in architectural and structural applications. Atmospheric corrosion mechanisms in controlled and uncontrolled atmospheric environments. Various corrosion types under different atmospheric conditions. Monitoring and mitigation strategies required to assess atmospheric corrosion and develop and manage atmospheric corrosion control programs. Predictive modelling for predicting how and where atmospheric corrosion may evolve in the future. Corrosion resistant alloys, protective coatings, inhibitors for atmospheric corrosion prevention. Examine the latest scientific tools available for preventing or minimising corrosion damage. New insights obtained over the last decade through controlled studies as well as computer modelling investigations. |
