The Nursing Major (MSc) enhances professional career development, preparing nurses for advanced clinical practice with individuals, families, groups and communities. Nursing theory and research as well as professional role development are an integral part of the major, which is focused on the development of the clinical expert through studies in specialist and advanced practice role development. Fundamental to this major is the development of leadership, critical thinking and clinical decision making capacity, preparing health professionals for a leadership role at an executive level.
Major/Stream Entry and Completion Details
Applicants require a bachelor degree in nursing or equivalent with a high course weighted average (greater than 70 percent), plus registration as a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia (Bentley location) or the Singapore Nurses Board (Singapore location) and a minimum of one year post registration clinical experience. Evidence of successful completion of appropriate undergraduate research units is an additional course prerequisite.

A graduate of this course can:
1. apply discipline knowledge, principles and concepts in accordance with relevant practice codes, standards and legislation
2. apply critical thinking and reflective practice to executive nursing practice to generate innovative solutions and advance practice
3. access, evaluate and synthesise information relevant to executive nursing and the promotion of optimal outcomes for clients
4. communicate effectively and work collaboratively with clients, carers, families, communities and the interdisciplinary health care team
5. utilise technology safely and appropriately for the diagnosis and management of clients
6. participate in research and critically appraise research findings and incorporate evidence based knowledge into advanced executive nursing practice
7. relate policy, practices and standards to international trends
8. demonstrate cultural competence in the care of all clients, families and communities
9. demonstrate professional, legal and ethical accountability within the scope of practice for safe health care delivery
Duration and Availability
This fee-paying course is three semesters’ full-time or equivalent part-time study.
