Course Overview
Bachelor Honours Degrees prepare students to develop broad and coherent knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 7 qualifications. The honours component prepares students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional work, research and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.
This course is structured in a format that relates specifically to the career aspirations of students wishing to work as project managers, quantity surveyors, construction managers, estimators, and contract administrators. This course prepares students for a professional career in building, construction and related industries. Students may be invited to undertake an honours program in the final year of the course.
Professional Recognition
Graduates will be eligible for corporate membership to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Board of Quality Surveyors Malaysia after fulfilling experience requirements. Accreditation for corporate membership of the Australian Institute of Quality Surveyors is being sought.The professional bodies have provisions for student membership and students are advised to take advantage of such opportunities.

Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Bachelor Degree or Bachelor Honours Degree are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au and include flexible entry pathways. Admission to the Honours stream is by invitation and follows high achievement within this Bachelor Degree. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Applicants require TEE Mathematics 2C/2D. STAT elements considered are E and Q.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Pathway to Further Study
Graduates with a Bachelor Degree may qualify for entry to some Graduate Certificates, Graduate Diplomas and Master by Coursework degrees. Specific Course Completion Details
Prior to the beginning of the final year, students should have undertaken either two supervised site visits or 40 days of experience as a requirement for the unit BLDG4010 Integrated Construction Project 1.
Course Organisation
Embedded Bachelor Honours Degrees typically comprise an honours stream equivalent to one year of full-time study undertaken during the last year (or two) of study.
Work-Integrated Learning is emphasised in this course. Regular site visits are arranged by the department. Students are also encouraged to make their own arrangements for gaining experience in the building industry. This can be undertaken during vacations or in employment while studying as a part-time student and shall be recorded in an official logbook.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. apply key concepts of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying, apply Construction Management and Quantity Surveying knowledge and extend this application through discipline based research
2. think creatively and innovatively in a building construction context to generate solutions to complex construction problems
3. access information from a range of sources using appropriate technologies and use decision making and problem solving knowledge to generate appropriate outcomes
4. communicate appropriately to a broad array of construction stakeholders and the wider community audience
5. recognise and apply the appropriate technologies to building construction processes and society
6. develop and manage learning strategies to advance themselves in a building construction leaning community
7. understanding the international perspective of construction management and quantity surveying and apply international practices
8. appreciate the cultural diversity of the wider community as it impacts on building construction, recognise indigenous rights with the regard to building construction
9. manage construction processes in an effective, ethical and professional way, recognise and apply environmentally responsible practices in a construction context
