Course Overview
Graduate Certificates prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications.
This course is for those students wishing to specialise in research through future studies. It will also be of interest to business professionals who are responsible for the administration, design and implementation of research projects in their organisation. Prospective students are likely to be those with an interest in postgraduate research, but with no prior experience in conducting academic research as part of an undergraduate Honours year thesis or a research Master thesis.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks and other essential study materials.
Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants for a Graduate Certificate are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au. Applicants generally require a Bachelor Degree or equivalent credit gained for recognised learning. Any specific course entry and completion requirements must also be met.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Course Organisation
Graduate Certificates contain a series of units which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences.
This course is intended to provide students with the necessary skills to design and implement a research project.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. have a thorough foundation of contemporary business and research theories, concepts and principles and be able to apply these in a group or organisational and/or research environment; an understanding of appropriate research methodologies and support of research paradigms
2. create and critically evaluate innovative ideas and strategies within ambiguous and uncertain business environments through conceptual and research application
3. access, evaluate and synthesise diverse information for intelligent business application and research methodologies
4. develop academic writing and presentation skills that meet expected standards of academic rigour, creativity and professional presentation at a post graduate level
5. use electronic resources to effectively collect information and communicate;select and use appropriate technologies and recognise their advantages and limitations in undertaking research data collection and analysis
6. possess and be able to utilise life-long learning strategies through generalisable or prescriptive application of research findings to business environments
7. implement appropriate tools and an exposure to international and local managerial and strategic issues
8. appreciate the complexity of organisations and have knowledge of research instruments that assist analysis and interpretation of the changing infrastructure and environment for an organisation
9. recognise and apply research methodology perspectives within the global business environment
