| Syllabus: | In this unit, students learn about the pathophysiology, pharmacology and pharmacotherapy for the management of medical conditions and complications that affect the central nervous system (CNS) and apply current evidence to resolve clinical problems. This unit comprises 4 modules. Module 1: Neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease and epilepsy. Module 2: Mental conditions including anxiety disorders, major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar, sleep disorders, anorexia and bulimia nervosa. Module 3: Pain disorders including use of opioid analgesics, local and general anaesthetics. Module 4: CNS conditions associated with substance abuse and addiction, and behavioural disorders associated with the use of psychostimulants. |
