| Syllabus: | The paramedic’s role within the health care team in primary and acute care settings. Ethics, bioethics and legal issues in paramedic practice. Confidentiality, capacity and consent. Professional practice framework, professional rights and responsibilities, record keeping, governance. Consumer rights in advocacy and health care. Integrated health care including mental health. Communication with critically unstable clients across the lifespan (critically ill, altered mental state, acute mental health crisis, altered consciousness) and their families. Communication, negotiation and problem solving (interaction with peers, clients and inter-professional teams). Equity and diversity. Living wills. Preservation of client centred care along the continuum of client's rights from self-determination to custodial care. Recognition and reporting of abuse. Clinical decision making. Preserving evidence and victim support. |
