| UNIT REFERENCES, TEXTS, OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENT DETAILS: | The most up-to-date information about unit references, texts and outcomes, will be provided in the unit outline. |
| Syllabus: | Students will undertake a scaffolded learning process as they develop their design skills towards a synthesis of the complex variable associated with a pavement design. This includes the analysis of highway pavement as a load bearing system, including a theoretical background, the technology of components construction and maintenance methods, and an acknowledgement of the properties and usage of soil and rock as pavement materials. Selection and characterisation of subgrade, sub-base and base materials as well as incorporation of the properties and usage of asphalt shall be used to inform the students' pavements design and choice of pavement type.Materials for construction of rigid and flexible pavement shall allow analyses of the differences between flexible and rigid pavements towards reviews of the main factors that determine the design and life of road pavements, road surfaces and Subsurface Drainage design. |
