| Syllabus: | This unit will locate contemporary Media practices within the context of Transmedia storytelling techniques across multiple platforms in the development and delivery of a wide range of narratives from traditional drama, to message or information campaigns. The unit traces the evolution of storytelling by traditional narrators through to the present use of contemporary media platforms, in interactive or collaborative modes, collectively creating a transmedia approach that extends and enriches a narrative. Students will develop a deep understanding of most contemporary media platforms, their strengths and weaknesses, and how these platforms combine and interrelate within transmedia storytelling. Alongside becoming transmedia literate, students will also develop and pitch their own concept for a transmedia/multi-platform property. Working collaboratively, they will choose a concept, the platforms it will inhabit, strategies, design and functionality. |
