The electronics and communication fields represent two of the greatest growing technology areas in the world. With the rapid progress of information technology, the role of communications is becoming even more crucial for increasing industry efficiency and competition. This major explores relevant topics in telecommunications and networking like mobile radio communications and data network security. During their one-year project students have the opportunity to further investigate and apply emergent technologies in telecommunications and networking systems.

For entry into this major, students require an Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computing or Physics.

Course completion requires 480 hours of Exposure to Professional Engineering Practice

Major/Stream Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. apply electrical engineering theory and its design method to investigate and solve significant technological problems
2. analyse a problem and apply research and creative thinking to the formulation of a solution; implement and verify the solution using state of the art tools and techniques
3. find, evaluate, organise and present information relevant to electrical engineering research activities
4. communicate concepts and technical information to lay and professional personnel in written, oral and electronic forms
5. use software and hardware tools in a proficient way to analyse and verify electrical and electronic systems
6. recognise the rapid development of electrical and electronic technologies, and maintain currency via a spirit of inquiry and relevant further study
7. apply international standards, practices and conventions appropriate to electrical engineering
8. function effectively within a typical multidisciplinary and multi-cultural engineering design team as a team member, manager or team leader, recognising individual human rights
9. commit to and behave in accordance with the professional and ethical responsibilities of engineering postgraduates
