Syllabus: | This unit will cover the taxonomic and functional biodiversity of Australian vascular and non - vascular plants, algae and fungi. Students will acquire skills in using morphological traits to identify phylogenetic and taxonomuc groups and apply biological knowledge to predict and interpret adaptive and ecological responses to changing environmental conditions. Topics covered include: plant evolution; fire adaptions; seed storage and dispersal mechanisam; floral structure and pollination ecology; classification and ecology of algae and fungi; symbiotic associations between plants and root fungi. |
