Syllabus: | Students will develop an understanding of addiction behaviour and how to respond to it from a psychological perspective, as well as information on pharmacological approaches. Aetiology, assessment, case conceptualisation and a range of responses to people with addiction problems are part of the scope in this unit. Particular emphasis is placed understanding responding to clients with co-occurring addiction and other complex psychological difficulties. This unit aims to develop ethical professional skills and knowledge related to the understanding, assessment, and intervention of brain related disorders. It will include a review of neuro-anatomy, neurological disorders, neuropsychological assessment, and various methods of intervention including rehabilitation, cognitive retraining and counselling. |
