Course Overview
The English Language Bridging (ELB) course has been designed to prepare pathway students for tertiary study in an English language speaking environment. The ELB course provides instruction and practice in the use of academic language, skills and conventions. It also helps the students to familiarise themselves with the university academic environment. A graduate of this course can: 1. apply knowledge of grammatical structures and academic vocabulary in order to write and speak accurate, meaningful and comprehensible English 2. your own writing; analyse and evaluate own and others’ideas in order to develop an academic voice 3. understand, distinguish and record main ideas and supporting ideas in a lecture 4. use library technologies to access research 5. reflect on the learning process to develop autonomous learning strategies 6. produce texts of different lengths and in appropriate forms, referencing according to University conventions 7. present a comprehensible oral presentation of a piece of work

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks and other essential study materials. Students may be expected to purchase an English-English dictionary
Course Entry and Completion Details
This course is only available for international onshore students with an offer from Curtin University for an undergraduate or postgraduate course. Students with an IELTS overall score 1.0 band below Curtin’s English language entry requirement will need to complete a 17 week program. Students with an overall IELTS score of 0.5 below Curtin’s entry requirement will be admitted to a 10 week program.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for Credit for Recognised Learning are not considered within this course.

Duration and Availability
This course is 10-17 weeks full-time study (based on the applicant's IELTS score). Part-time study is not available to international students due to legislative and immigration provisions.
