Course Overview
The Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course is a six month course designed to fast-track Indigenous students with a secondary education and/or relevant TAFE qualification into mainstream University degree programs. The course provides the necessary academic knowledge and skills in a culturally appropriate environment; and promotes a strong sense of Indigenous identity which values each student’s cultural background.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks and other essential study materials.
Course Entry and Completion Details
This course is available only to applicants of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who have completed a secondary education and/or a relevant TAFE qualification. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age to enter the course. Applicants must attend an interview at Curtin and successfully complete the Indigenous students admission procedure.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for Credit for Recognised Learning are not considered within this course.
Applicants cannot receive credit for recognised learning for bridging units when transferring to award courses.

Applicants must attend an interview at Curtin and successfully complete the Indigenous students admission procedure. Students seeking to enrol must demonstrate literacy, numeracy and computing skills.
Course Organisation
It is a government directive that students undertaking this enabling course can only undertake designated enabling/bridging units. Students intending to study mainstream units may only undertake them in accordance with their conditions of admission and then only as part of a non-award extension fee-paying program.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. apply, demonstrate and compile academic knowledge and principles in a variety of contexts to promote self-directed and independent learning
2. think critically and creatively to generate solutions in an academic environment; apply logical processes in problem solving
3. access, evaluate, synthesise information from multiple sources in order to make valid judgements
4. communicate effectively with consideration of audience and purpose, demonstrating respect for others and cultural awareness
5. use technology appropriately to develop research skills, access resources and to communicate effectively to a wide community
6. be self-motivated and take responsibility for one’s own learning; develop life-long learning skills to source new and relevant information
7. consider global and cultural issues from a variety of perspectives
8. demonstrate respect for cultural diversity within Indigenous Australia, the wider community and University environment; respect and promote cultural diversity
9. work ethically and professionally both within a team and independently; develop leadership skills and a positive sense of Indigenous identity to empower others in the wider community
Duration and Availability
This six-month, fulltime course is offered at the Bentley Campus or online.
