Course Overview
Master degrees (coursework) prepare students to apply advanced knowledge for professional practice, scholarship and further learning corresponding to AQF level 9 qualifications.
This specialist course is one of Australia’s longest running, masters level leadership courses with a curriculum offering students a more detailed understanding and engagement with current and future leadership challenges. Students are constantly required to analyse and reframe leadership concepts alongside their own leadership styles in order to gain an understanding of organisations and develop their practical skills Students will also be required to apply, test and evaluate their analytical, leadership and management skills in the workplace and further their professional and personal development through action learning that is transferable to real organisations. By exploring the philosophy and ethics of leadership and covering a range of topics including working with teams, working in a global arena, effective and strategic management and organisational behaviour, graduates will leave the course with a more strategic understanding and engagement with leadership.

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials. Additional costs for accommodation during residential segments and for outdoor activities related to the course will apply.
Course Entry and Completion Details
Applicants are required to meet University academic and English language entry standards; details are provided at http://futurestudents.curtin.edu.au. Subject to the duration of the course applicants usually require a bachelor degree or equivalent (and may require relevant work experience), bachelor honours degree, graduate certificate or graduate diploma.
Specifically, applicants require a bachelor degree from a recognised tertiary institution and at least three years subsequent, relevant work experience. Graduates from the Curtin Graduate Certificate in Business will be considered qualified for entry. Entry to the course is competitive and applicants will be required to undertake an interview as the final stage of application assessment. The Graduate Board of Examiners require, unless there are exceptional circumstances, that those with more than two failures in the course or more than four units with grades below 60 per cent be excluded from the course, so as to maintain the high standard expected of such a prestigious qualification.
Credit for Recognised Learning
Applications for credit towards a course are assessed on an individual basis. Credit reduces the amount of learning required to complete the course and may be granted for formal education qualifications, non-formal learning from non-award programs of study and informal learning through work experiences. Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course:

Course Organisation
Master degrees (coursework) contain a series of units in a specialised area of study which may include compulsory (core), optional or elective units to cater for student preferences. They may also contain a range of majors/streams for students to choose from.
Students must complete 12 units (or 300 credits) and a minimum of 40 hours of professional development to graduate with a Master of Business Leadership. Units are available in a number of different modes including face to face, intensive and fully on-line.
Course Learning Outcomes
A graduate of this course can:
1. critically evaluate and apply diverse leadership and management theoretical frameworks to a wide range of contemporary business and social issues
2. utilise a range of perspectives to identify innovative solutions to leadership issues
3. make informed decisions based on the synthesis and evaluation of information in leadership settings
4. communicate effectively within the ethical and professional framework required of leadership roles
5. use technologies effectively and appropriately to enhance leadership practices
6. utilise life-long learning strategies to continue development of effective leadership
7. understand global imperatives and the implications of international standards and practices and their application in local and global settings
8. improve effectiveness as a leader through interaction with people from a range of cultures and backgrounds and by understanding and utilising diverse cultural perspectives in decision making
9. demonstrate professional, ethical and inclusive behaviour as a leader
Duration and Availability
This course may be completed in 1.5 years full-time or the equivalent in part-time study. Residential segments and weekend classes form compulsory components of the course.
