This course provides an introduction to basic principles of language teaching and the systems of language. Students take units in Language Studies, Teaching English as a Second Language (where the emphasis is on practical aspects of language teaching and learning), East Asian sociolinguistics and world Englishes.
A relevant bachelors degree.
Applicants for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Under certain circumstances one unit will be granted to applicants holding the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).
This fee-paying course is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study with a first semester intake only.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
