Introduction

This double degree in Asian Studies and Commerce is available to students intending to combine studies in accounting, banking, economics, electronic commerce, finance, information systems, information technology, international business, marketing, property, public relations or tourism management with studies in an Asian language, culture and society. Majors available in the Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies), which includes a major in Chinese (Mandarin), Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Asian Studies or TESOL. Combination of these two degrees provides students with plentiful and diverse career opportunities both in Australia and overseas.

None. TEE Applicable Mathematics or Discrete Mathematics is desirable. Preference will be given to applicants with a TEE LOTE subject, and also applicants with other evidence of formal language studies.

STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.

Note

Entrants to the double degree are expected to have attained a higher Tertiary Entrance Rank than is required for both single degrees.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

4 years' full-time study or equivalent part-time. Some units may be available via external study.

Course Organisation

Students undertake one major in accounting, banking, economics, electronic commerce, finance, information systems, information technology, international business, marketing, property, public relations, or tourism management in combination with an Asian Studies Major - Chinese (Mandarin), Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Asian Studies or TESOL. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of Department shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Professional Recognition

Additional units may be taken by those students seeking to satisfy the full educational requirements for admission into CPA Australia and the ICAA. These additional units are 2844 Law (Corporation) 224, 11041 Taxation 331 and 11001 Economics (Macro) 101.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
