Introduction

This course allows undergraduate students to combine studies in public health with a wide range of optional units as a Health Sciences Major, or complete a Health Information Management Major (profession specific units). Students who complete the Health Sciences Major will be awarded a Bachelor of Science (Health Sciences) and those who complete the Health Information Management Major will be awarded with a Bachelor of Science (Health Information Management).

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

None. One TEE Mathematics, and One TEE Science subject desirable.

STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is three years' full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Career Opportunities

Health Science Major Graduates may find employment in the public and non-government health organisations in areas such as management , health promotion and research depending on optional unit selection. Health Information Management Major Graduates find employment in the health care system, and in particular in hospitals working as departmental managers, in the areas of quality improvement, casemix analysis, data management, special projects, clinical classification and working as part of clinical research teams. Graduates may also be employed as health information consultants, primary care practice managers and in information systems design.
