Ecological resilience, natural variability, levels of biological organisation, diffuse versus point-source contamination and field versus laboratory toxicology. Legislative requirements, endpoints and interpretation, methodologies, monitoring of urban environments, advantages and limitations of biomarkers, interpretation and confounding factors. Classes of contaminants, target organs, modes of action and acceptable impacts of anthropogenic activities.
