Review anatomy of the lower leg and foot. Sterilisation procedures for daily clinical practice. Sterilisation procedures for operating theatre. Principles of infection control. Major infective agents and their management. Wound healing, systemic affects on wound healing. Pre-operative examination including history taking, physical examination, laboratory tests and patient consent. Surgical suturing techniques of skin and soft tissue. Biopsy techniques of the skin. Evaluation of radiological manifestations of bone deformities in relation to foot deformities. Radiological assessment post-operatively. Anaesthesia via general and local measures, its risks and complications. Appropriate surgical procedures for nails, hammer toes, metatarsal lesions, hallux valgus, "flat foot", tailors bunions and other common foot problems. |
