Digital encoding of time-continuous analogue signals, time sampling and quantisation, pulse code modulation (PCM), differential PCM. Baseband digital communication systems, Nyquist criterion and intersymbol interference, eye patterns, partial response signalling, line coding, synchronisation and clock recovery, noise performance and probability of error, optimum receiver design, linear and decision feedback equalisation, carrier modulation for digital transmission systems. Introduction to error correcting coding. |
