Seminars and colloquia dealing with design research issues and development projects being undertaken by colleague and graduate students. There will be a series of student led discussions exploring issues raised in a variety of set texts or visits to exhibitions about Design. The texts will be on issues of contemporary cultural practice, which in some way affects design and its practitioners. It is intended that these seminars be broad ranging. Students will be encouraged to present articles and book chapters for consideration by the group. Areas suggested for discussion include: the work of contemporary cultural theorists, feminist issues, politics in design, professionalism, exhibition and display of Art, Design, Craft. The aim of the unit will be to deepen our understanding of Design and its place in society. |
