305773 v.1 Bachelor of Science (Health Information Management), Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)
BSc(Curtin), BSc(Curtin)
Introduction
This double degree allows for the simultaneous development of a sound knowledge base in computer science in the areas of computer architectures, operating systems, programming languages and environments and software technology. This combination of skills is highly desirable for careers in technical support, systems development, database and network management positions in the public and private health sectors and in the information technology industry.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Applicable Mathematics and Calculus. Human Biology desirable.
Specific Requirements
STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.
Note
Students without TEE Calculus but with a good pass in TEE Applicable Mathematics may be admitted but will be required to undertake additional studies in mathematics.
Duration and Availability
This course is four years full-time or equivalent part time study. This course may not be studied externally.
Course Organisation
Professional practice is emphasised throughout the program through project work, visits and exercises. Students visit a wide variety of health facilities and are required to participate in professional practice placements during vacations in the third and fourth year of the course. Some students choose to travel interstate and overseas for broader experience.
Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible for Professional Level Accreditation with the Australian Computer Society and for graduate membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
