Introduction
This course provides knowledge promoting recognition of potential and actual hazards in the workplace, evaluation of both the hazards and the available methods for control, and application of the legislative and compliance strategies necessary to controlhazards. The theoretical knowledge is complemented by practical application in the workplace. Government legislation aims to reduce the burden of injury and disease in the workplace and puts the responsibility for occupational health and safety onto the employer. The role of personnel associated with health and safety in the workplace is therefore becoming more important and demanding.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
In addition to the usual entry requirements, evidence of completion of a Senior First Aid Certificate must be provided.

STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
This course is conducted in flexible delivery mode and is two years full-time or equivalent part-time study, available at Esperance and Kalgoorlie Campus only.
Course Organisation
Students are enrolled externally, with support provided by tutorial contact and various electronic (database and Internet) resources.
Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible for membership with the Safety Institute of Australia, although such membership is not required to practice professionally.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.
