| Syllabus: | This advanced unit explores human beings in the information age, in particular social and cultural aspects of digitally created worlds, the aspects of a virtual networked society, and the application of Big Data and visualisation across humanities disciplines. It especially demonstrates how the development of new digital technology as a continuation in humanitiy's endeavour relates to how physical, imagined, and spiritual worlds have played an important role in cultural and social development. The unit gives understanding of the design of 'data' and 'information' and how it can be presented as part of digitally and physically created worlds. Students will be able to understand information design in real and digital worlds; Big Data applications in humanities, visualisation for digital heritage, cultural collections; digital social networking and consumer data in cultural and humanities settings; visualisation of spatial and temporal data in social settings; as well as data-centric human media interaction. Students will be able to engage with ways digital technology enable us to record and reflect data driven real, imagined, and digital worlds. |
