Syllabus: This unit applies the core principles of chemistry, molecular structure and chemical reactivity to biological molecules. Key chemical concepts such as bonding and structure (e.g. chirality) will be used to highlight the function of biological building blocks (lipids, carbohydrates, amino acids and the nitrogen bases) of large cellular molecules like proteins, DNA and RNA. The chemical reactions of selected metabolic processes will also be covered. Laboratory experiments in preparative reactions illustrating techniques and reactions involving chemical transformations
Unit references, texts, outcomes and assessment details The most up-to-date information about unit references, texts and outcomes, will be provided in the unit outline.
