Syllabus: | The design project aims to evaluate student’s ability to work both as individuals and as committed members. Regardless of the topic, each student is required to complete the design of one minor unit for the chosen design project. Also, students are expected to cover about 60% of the following topics (and specifically concentrate on the corrosion engineering aspects) for the project activity: Process design; Process engineering; Project management; Process evaluation and selection; Site location; Plant layout and process flow-sheet and piping diagram; Preliminary design; Specifications and equipment schedule; Environmental impact; Industrial codes and legislation; Design report: Chemical engineering design; Mechanical engineering design; Operational aspects; Full specification and complete chemical engineering design; Materials of construction; mechanical design; Structural support; Environmental, hazard operability (HAZOP); Operability; Costing, energy considerations; Start-up and shutdown; Maintenance, Process control and instrumentation, and detailed drawing; Pressure vessel design using AS 1210; Pump and piping specifications. |
