Syllabus: Use a systems approach assess, diagnose, manage, document and evaluate care related to the unstable patient in surgical or medical settings. Apply therapeutic communication and meet nursing competency standards in selected clinical contexts. Assess and manage care needs of people with depressive states. Inter-professional care planning. Medication (parenteral, paediatric) preparation, administration and recording, dosage calculations and medication infusion devices. Intravenous fluid replacement therapy across the lifespan, including blood product replacement. Pain management across the lifespan. Emergency procedures, including paediatric resuscitation. Wound and stoma care. Nutritional support. Elimination support (catheters). Pre-post operative care. Principles of barrier nursing. Paediatric fluid management.
